Fabulous--wish I'd known about it before my trip. When I lived in Lille years ago, my favorite place was 'the Kilo Shop' where you could buy used clothes by the kilo. I still wear many of my finds --a purple needle point ski jacket from the sixties and a chunky sweater that I don't think a nuclear attack could destroy. I keep thinking I'll outgrow my love of second-hand things but perhaps I should go with it....

I'm in the midst of reading Julia Child's autobiography (she lived in Paris just after WWII, also a time of economic hardship), so this post felt particularly poignant for me.

Good for you, making your budget work, it's so easy to feel like expensive restaurants and the big department stores are the only way to enjoy the city, but Paris is such a lovely city that you can find ways to enjoy your time without spending much at all.

...and if you haven't found it already, one of my favorite consignment stores is Chercheminippes... they have 4 stores total, including an entire store devoted to children's clothing & I've outfitted both my children in fancy finds like Bonpoint jackets for 10 Euro or brand new Petit Bateau pj's for 5 Euro each. A bargain even after the currency conversion!

Here's the store info
