Overview
Exotic Rajasthan in all its battle-scarred might and whimsical, riotous profusion of architectural delights, studded with mighty forts, is perhaps best seen in a nutshell in the golden city of Jaisalmer. Exotic Rajasthan in all its battle-scarred might and whimsical, riotous profusion of architectural delights, studded with mighty forts, is perhaps best seen in a nutshell in the golden city of Jaisalmer. Sunset in the desert over this architectural marvel is unforgettable, the last rays of the sun's light giving the local stone a honey, golden glow. The city's massive fort, resembling an enormous sandcastle, rises from the barren desert in a surreal and magical way. As with most of Rajasthan's cities, getting lost in the labyrinthine streets and bazaars is the best way to discover its secrets. The ornate city residences (havelis) are some of the best in the state — look especially for Patwon-ki-Haveli, and check out the view back to the fort from its roof. You can also experience Rajastahan's most iconic attraction around Jaisalmer — a camel safari. This is an incredibly evocative way to get a taste of life in the desert. Camping out at night around a fire and admiring the stars of the night skies will provide many stories for the relatives back home.
