Historically a place of maundering pirates and smugglers, St. Vincent & the Grenadines is a collection of 32 spectacular cays and islands in the far eastern Caribbean. Until recently, these islands had been a forgotten outpost, but people are tuning in to the fact that SVG has some of the best sailing, diving and snorkeling in the Caribbean. Today, instead of pirates, you're more likely to find folks featured on Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. The islands are anchored by St. Vincent, the largest and northernmost island and home to Kingstown, the capital, but the best attractions can be found on some of the smaller islands that tip-toe south, including Bequia (gorgeous beaches, nightlife, diving and charm), Mustique (ultra-exclusive private island) and Tobago Cays (five coral cays set aside as a national park, perfect for diving and snorkeling). Sailing is excellent throughout this island chain, and the beaches boast soft white sand and easy access to the turquoise waters.
