Overview
Honduras is a top destination for eco-tourists and nature lovers. Less famous than nearby Costa Rica and Belize, Honduras offers similar attractions with lower prices and fewer crowds (for now). National parks preserve some of the most remote and unspoiled wilderness in Central America. The most popular parks are Pico Bonito and Jeanette Kawas on the north coast. Hardy hikers visit Celaque and Cusuco in the west and La Tigra near Tegucigalpa. Scuba divers and snorkelers enjoy some of the world's finest reefs in the Bay Islands of Roatan, Guanaja and Utila. Whitewater rafters brave the Cangrejal River on the north coast. In the southwest lies Copán, one of the world's most important Mayan sites. The capital Tegucigalpa has splendid colonial architecture and wonderful handicrafts. True adventurers take a boat into the roadless mangrove jungles of La Moskitia to spend a few days with the Indians and the birds.
