Bologna cannot be easily summed up with one description; here a visitor will find everything from extensive museums and religious shrines to the birthplace of the Ducati motorcycle and Lamborghini home office, from obscure antique shops to cutting edge fashion, and from historical culture to the modern diversity of the university campus. This city is steeped in historic splendor, as its many museums illustrate. A visit to the University Quarter offers some fine architectural examples as well as the opportunity to sample some of the best in Bolognese cuisine and lively social culture. The Basilica di San Petronino and San Giacomo Maggiore are two of the finest churches in town, superbly decorated by Italian masters. Window shopping at the trend-setting boutiques along via Rizzoli, via d’Azeglio, Galleria Cavour, and via Farini is a must, as well as taking in one of the many theatrical or musical performances that honor the town year round. Impressive views of the city can be taken in from the Le Due Torri.
