The current prince, Albert II, is famously the son of Prince Rainier III and the American actress Grace Kelly. Monte Carlo, its capital, which makes up almost the entire principality, is one of the most famous tourist resorts in the world, drawing visitors who come for the luxury hotels, gambling at the Monte-Carlo casino, prestigious automobile races (the Rally and the Grand Prix), and the Mediterranean beaches, not to mention convenience to Alpine ski slopes and other French Riviera resorts like Nice. Amidst the opulence, beachgoers will be pleased to learn that one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean (the man-made Larvotto Beach) is free to the public.
