The center is busy through the day, with people enjoying the good - and colorful - shopping while making frequent stops at the plethora of canalside cafes. Within the shadow of the 14th-century Pieterskerk (Peter's Church) is the Latin School, where Rembrandt was a schoolboy from 1616 to 1620, and the 13th-century Gravensteen, an old prison. Just west is one of Holland's five star sights: Keukenhof Gardens, where millions of tulips, daffodils and other flowers explode in a rainbow of colors each spring.
