Astún, near Jaca, is smaller with 25 miles of trails and two slalom courses served by 15 lifts. At Candanchú, on the opposite side of the mountain from Astún, 22 lifts carry skiers and boarders to about 25 miles of trails usually covered in packed powder. Cross-country trails here are also popular. Experts head for Formigal, near Sallent de Gállego, for its four-mile run and difficult open skiing terrain. Conditions there are normally packed powder and powder, and facilities at the base are good. Panticosa’s 22 miles of trails are accessed by 16 lifts, and the resort has a slalom course and the liveliest après-ski scene with lots of bars and restaurants at the base. Javalambre, also in the Grupo Aramon, has 9 lifts reaching eight miles of trail skiing. Most of these resorts are easy to reach by train, although Panticosa is about 25 miles from the nearest rail station.
