Overview
The neighboring resorts of Davos and Klosters share a ski area that’s the second largest in Graubunden (after St. Moritz), with 185 miles of slopes and 60 lifts. Davos lies along a small river that flows through an incredibly beautiful valley. On the peaks high above, the areas of Parsenn, Jakobshorn, Rinerhorn and Pischa offer a huge variety of skiing and snowboarding fun. In town there’s an extensive cross-country skiing track. The snowboard scene is intense, and nightlife is lively in season. There are many fine hotels, some with the boxy balconies that recall their past as sanitaria, where tuberculosis patients took the local “Champagne air.” Stroll the High Promenade for a birds-eye view of the town, or catch a hockey game at Europe’s largest wooden stadium. In case of bad weather, visit the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Museum, an excellent collection of paintings by the famous expressionist. Klosters, named for its 13th-century monastery, is smaller and a bit more elegant than Davos, and offers similar opportunities for winter sports.
