While Vancouver is the gateway to world-renowned skiing and snowboarding at Whistler, the city itself is an excellent destination for a winter vacation. In the Coast Mountains along the northern edge of the city are three alpine resorts, as well as provincial parks with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. By day, the active visitor can enjoy skiing and snowboarding, then go kayaking right from downtown, or perhaps venture out to one of the year-round golf courses. More urban-oriented visitors can visit one of the many museums or savor the aromas of just-brewed coffee and freshly baked bread wafting from cosmopolitan sidewalk cafes. By night, Vancouver’s myriad fine restaurants, hip nightclubs, and world-class performing-arts venues beckon visitors to continue enjoying themselves into the wee hours. Vancouver also holds an abundance of world-class attractions and many smaller gems that are easy to miss.
