Temagami (Winter)

Temagami (pronounced Te-MAWG-a-mee) touts itself as "adventure capital of Northern Ontario." Its 10,000 square kilometers (6,200 square miles) of wilderness encompasses old-growth pine forests and an abundance of rivers and lakes, fish and wildlife. Lake Temagami alone features hundreds of miles of shoreline and more than 1,200 islands. Dog-sledding packages are especially popular with families, while ice fishing brings another type of winter aficionado. In addition, Temagami’s many miles of groomed trails attract eager snowmobilers from late December to late March. The municipality of Temagami offers all basic services, and an assortment of resorts, camps, outfitters and rental cottages meet most budgets.
