It was originally “discovered” in 1936 by a well-heeled American businessman, Joe Ryan, who decided to make it the East’s biggest ski resort. With 95 ski trails spread over the mountain’s four faces, Mont-Tremblant is regularly named the number one ski resort in North America East by Ski Magazine. At its base, a colorful Québecois-style pedestrian village known as Tremblant features hotels, restaurants, boutiques, bars and condominiums. This international resort now encompasses two mountains (Mont-Blanc is the Laurentians’ second highest), three villages and the breathtaking natural beauty of Mont-Tremblant National Park. Besides downhill skiing and snowboarding, you can go cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, dog sledding, sleigh riding, ice climbing, ice skating, tubing or take a helicopter tour. Joe Ryan’s dream has surely been fulfilled.
