Overview
Los Cabos - the far southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, between the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo - has become a playground on a grand scale for Mexicans and Americans, all of whom can fly straight into Los Cabos airport north of San José. Los Cabos - the far southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, between the towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo - has become a playground on a grand scale for Mexicans and Americans, all of whom can fly straight into Los Cabos airport north of San José. Too grand, some might say, referring to the overdevelopment of hotels, timeshares and vacation homes that sullies parts of both towns and the 19-mile-long "Los Cabos Corridor" stretching along the coast between them. But the area's natural attractions, the root cause of its popularity, are on a grand scale too. The string of glorious sandy beaches along the corridor have some of Mexico's best surf breaks, best snorkeling spots and best dive sites. They're marvelous places for simple sunbathing and often swimming too. Land's End off Cabo San Lucas is one of the most spectacular pieces of rocky coast you'll find anywhere, and the sport fishing from Cabo is as exciting as ever. To these assets have been added several top-class golf courses along the corridor. The towns at either end stand in marked contrast to each other - while Cabo San Lucas is a big-time party and activity town, San José is a place to unwind and stroll.
