Overview

This coastal wine region midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco is one of the most picturesque AVA's in California. Located between the Santa Lucia Mountains and the sea, the SLO wine region takes advantage of a benign climate moderated by a marine layer that combines with a long growing season and unique soils to produce nearly two dozen distinctive varietal wines. The region boasts almost three dozen wineries, and many are open to visitors. The wineries are relatively close together, making combining a selection easy, especially when following the SLO Wine Tasting Map.
