Overview

The city of Winston-Salem is often packaged together with Greensboro and High Point to form the Piedmont Triad, a community booster way of competing with the nearby Research Triangle of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. On the grounds of tobacco baron R.J. Reynolds' estate, the buildings have been converted into shops, restaurants and galleries to form Reynolda Village. Finally, anyone who appreciates the finer things in life rejoice! — the Krispy Kreme doughnut was born in Winston-Salem in 1937 and the gooey hunks of delicious dough are still made fresh every day.
