Overview
Sheer cliffs and monoliths of vivid red sandstone create Sedona's stunning setting. The warm colors of the rock and the dark green of the vegetation seem to have a healing quality. Sheer cliffs and monoliths of vivid red sandstone create Sedona's stunning setting. The warm colors of the rock and the dark green of the vegetation seem to have a healing quality. Some people feel calming or energizing energy emanating from places known as vortexes. Artists also find inspiration from the surrounding Red Rock Country, and you can visit many galleries in town including the Sedona Arts Center and the Mexican-styled village of Tlaquepaque. Grand scenery lies in every direction. Head north along Oak Creek Canyon for a stunning scenic drive with places to stop along the way for a hike, swim, or just to enjoy nature. The easy hike up the West Fork of Oak Creek follows a very pretty canyon past tranquil pools. Oak Creek and its tributaries support towering stands of sycamore and cottonwoods and luxuriant undergrowth, which attracts birds and other wildlife. You can visit pueblo ruins and rock art sites of Native Americans who once lived in the Sedona area. Because back roads tend to be rough, many visitors join a Jeep tour to experience remote landscapes, archaeological sites, and vortexes. Dozens of hiking trails lead into scenic areas and wildernesses.
