Arizona

Arizona offers great natural beauty, from the famed Grand Canyon in the north to the saguaro cactus-filled Sonoran Desert in the south. Navajo and Hopi tribes maintain traditional ways and welcome visitors to their dramatic landscapes in the northeast corner of the state; memorable destinations here include Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, and the traditional Hopi village of Walpi. The mountain town of Flagstaff has a lively historic district and great hiking and scenic drives nearby. Sedona's Red Rock Country enchants with its magical countryside. In the center of the state, Arizona's capital Phoenix offers seemingly limitless cultural and recreation opportunities. The Apache Trail scenic drive begins at the east edge of greater Phoenix and leads into some of the state's wildest desert canyons and mountains. Over on the western border, you can relax on the Colorado River's beaches or zip across the calm waters. Tucson, in Arizona's southeast corner, charms with its Spanish heritage and many natural and cultural attractions. Deeper into the southeast, the Wild West towns of Tombstone and Bisbee are the real thing. You can reach for the stars at Kitt Peak and other observatories open to the public in the south.
