Overview

San Francisco Bay's largest isle, Angel Island State Park draws more than 100,000 visitors annually, and for good reason. Merely for the ferry ride from nearby Tiburon, nature lovers and photographers appreciate the picturesque views of the bay, San Francisco and the fog rushing through the Golden Gate. Once you arrive on the island, you'll get a glimpse of the rich history: from a Miwok Indian hunting ground to the site of the Japanese internment camps of World War II. Either begin your adventure with lunch at the cantina and oyster bar (with wine, beer, live music on nice days, and Hog Island Oysters), or rent a bike to cycle the circumference of the island. On your visit, you'll likely spot the resident deer, the eleven coveted campsites (book well in advance for September or October to have a chance for decent weather), and the wealth of flowers and native plants. Other activities include Segway tours, tram tours, and hiking Mount Livermore.
