Connecticut

Known for its picturesque villages and Manhattan bedroom communities, Connecticut has much more to reward visitors who give it a second glance. An extensive coastline provides many craggy beaches and old port cities and towns. Mystic Seaport is a historical village museum that tells of the state's nautical past, while the active port of Stonington is especially known for its scallops and fish. The Litchfield Hills in the northwest corner make a beautiful getaway destination, and are especially popular with people leaving New York City heat in the summer. The northeast corner, however, is more down to earth, with unspeakably lovely town squares and trust-system farm stands. Cities are rich with industrial heritage - it seems every one was famous for a specialty production, from clocks to hats. Marvelous museums deal with such diverse topics as Mark Twain, trolleys, and P. T. Barnum, and areas like the central coast and Litchfield Hills attract contemporary artists in a range of media.
