Known worldwide as the spot to win the coveted green jacket at the Masters golf tournament, Augusta is more than just a golf Mecca. Georgia's second largest city oozes with interesting history and Southern charm. Several historic neighborhoods feature gorgeous antebellum homes, many of which can be seen on the Historic Driving Tour. Artists' Row is a funky arts district with more than two dozen art galleries. Situated on the banks of the Savannah River, Riverwalk Augusta has walkways along the river, as well as shops and restaurants. Nearby nature parks include Augusta Canal Headgates at Savannah Rapids, a National Heritage Area and great spot to kayak, cycle or trek on the walking trails. And when you just have to get back to the golf, the Master's tournament happens every April and spectators can vie for tickets to practice rounds. Tournament tickets, however, are a different story. Tournament tickets were sold until 1972, when the patron list was closed. A waiting list was started but closed in 1978, was reopened again in 2000, but it is now closed again. So unless you're buddies with Tiger, you too will watch on TV.
