Long, luscious beaches, seaside golf courses, easy meandering bike paths, and tidal marshlands teeming with crabs and shorebirds - that's what the Golden Isles are all about. At the southern end of Georgia's coastal islands the so-called Golden Isles include St. Simons Island (golf courses, live oak trees, beachside resorts), Jekyll Island (former home to millionaire beach houses, now owned by the state and replete with gorgeous beaches and ample wildlife), Sea Island (home to the exclusive Cloister Resort) and Little St. Simons Island (mostly vast tracks of wilderness accessible only by boat). The mainland historic town of Brunswick is often thrown under the "Golden Isles" umbrella as it is the main jumping-off point for trips to the islands. Brunswick has a great little historic district and some giant live oaks.
