The cottages in the Muscatine Avenue Moffitt Cottage District are worthy of a look for their vernacular architectural style made famous by American architect Howard Moffitt. The cottages were built between 1924 and 1940. Anglers will enjoy the F.W. Kent Park with its 27-acre lake filled with large-mouth bass, crappie, and walleye. There are also wetlands, forests and prairies to explore. An excellent day trip from Iowa City is a visit to the Amana Colonies, a 26,000 acre National Historic Landmark 20 miles west of the city. The colonies are made up of seven villages that in the 18th century were a German religious community. Each village is filled with history, museums, galleries and quaint lodgings. If you need to stretch your legs, walk the Amana Colonies Trail that links all the villages.
