The seacoast town of Marshfield was the home of the Great Daniel Webster, and at the northern end, Quincy boasts the homestead of John and Abigail Adams and their son John Quincy Adams. Quincy, Braintree, Hingham, Hull and Cohasset form the southern boundaries of Boston Harbor and are centers of sailing and beaches. From I-93 south of Boston, Route 3 (divided highway) cuts through the inland heart of the region while old Route 3A (2 lane) runs closer to the shore. Scituate is known for its Old Scituate Lighthouse and Minot’s Ledge Light on a shoal offshore from Minot Beach. Many of these towns house colonial and early federal era houses and buildings, such as Duxbury, which has sea captains' houses and the home of John Alden.
