Nestled under the colorfully-striated cliffs of the Wilson Range, the 520-acre ranch provides a pleasant contrast with the bright lights of Las Vegas. Scheduled guided tours are conducted through the property formerly owned by millionaire Howard Hughes, German heiress Vera Krupp and an early-day comedian named Chester Lauck. Not only did the ranch have an interesting assortment of owners. It also was put to a variety of uses — including a boys ranch and a chinchilla raising facility. Scenic hiking trails, shaded picnic areas and abundant wildlife in themselves make the ranch worth visiting, but the park also hosts many worthwhile events. One of the most popular of the ranch's annual events is Pioneer Days in September, with demonstrations of such skills as Dutch-oven cooking, black powder rifle shooting, weaving and spinning. Another of the ranch's attractions is the cultural events pavilion where the Super Summer Theatre presents Broadway musicals from June through mid-September. Shows listed on the 2011 playbill included "Annie," "The Drowsy Chaperone," "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Five Guys Named Moe." The park's entrance fee can vary with events. Year-long passes are available.
