North Conway is a charming town that makes the perfect base camp for a family vacation to the White Mountains. The town itself offers a lovely main street with cafes and shops, as well as the huge Victorian train station for the Conway Scenic Railroad, a must-do for any visitor. This area is especially family-friendly, with several choices of well established yet down-to-earth theme parks. Storyland in Glen brings the pages of childhood tales to life and has attractions for the very young to pre-teens. Santa’s Village, located in Jefferson, will get even the staunchest Scrooge in the Christmas spirit, featuring a wide variety of rides, shows, and even live reindeer to feed. There are also several family operated mini golf and go-kart parks in the area, and plenty of camping and hiking available for nature lovers. Anyone will enjoy visiting the top of Mount Washington, either via the Auto Road or on the historic Cog Railway, still powered by hand-shoveled coal. Winter ski resorts turn into summer playgrounds, with a mountain coaster at Cranmore, right in town, and water slide at Attitash Mountain Resort in Bartlett.
