Black Mountain in Jackson is a favorite of families for its small intimate atmosphere and old time flavor. Loon Mountain’s north-facing slopes keep snow a bit later into the spring than others. Attitash and Waterville Valley round out the choices. One of the nation’s finest Nordic ski facilities is the Jackson Ski Touring Center, with miles of groomed trails and magnificent mountain views. Bretton Woods has a cross country-center and others are in Franconia, Waterville Valley, Pinkham Notch and Bartlett. There is public skating in North Conway, sleigh rides in Jackson, dogsledding in Jefferson and snowmobiling throughout White Mountains National Forest.
