The USA's oldest capital city, Santa Fe, sits at nearly 7,000 feet and is one of the country's top art destinations. Canyon Road, just west of the town center, is the gallery district and most of its graceful adobe buildings are filled with wonderful artistic creations — although a few places are a bit too tacky for some tastes. The town square, surrounded by shops, more galleries and restaurants serving delicious New Mexican cuisine, is perfect for appreciating the slower pace of life over a divine margarita at a rooftop bar or sidewalk café.
