Adirondacks
Twice the size of Yellowstone National Park, the Adirondacks is the last great wilderness in the Eastern USA, with endless opportunities for fishing and sailing, hiking and camping, horse racing and ballet in Saratoga Springs, whitewater rafting on the headwaters of the mighty Hudson River near Glens Falls, and more. Two of New York State's largest lakes are here ? Lake George and Lake Placid, which was the site of the 1932 and 1980 winter Olympics. Athletes continue to train here, and the area is popular with cross-country and downhill skiers, too. In summer, the most popular places in the region likely are the hiking trails of Mount Marcy, the state's tallest peak.
