Listed by Money Magazine as one of the top 100 places to live in America, New Rochelle offers visitors the same small city charm befitting the inspiration of 1960s television series "The Dick Van Dyke Show," while being a quick train hop away from everything New York City has to offer. Originally home to the French Huguenot refugees who settled the town in the early 1700s, today’s diversity is showcased in the city’s unique neighborhoods, parks and large historic district. A marina offering 350 boat slips, 150 moorings and kayak storage complements the city’s five waterfront parks. Outdoors lovers can pick from a dozen parks and natural areas featuring beaches, pavilions, gardens, 67 acres of trails, open meadows, recreational facilities, playgrounds and bird sanctuary. Culture can be had sans the 20 minutes ride into the city: in strolling the manicured streets of stately historic homes, in local galleries and small venues like the Poets Corner, as well as the Museum of Arts and Culture and numerous events offered by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.
