Overview
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Burr Oak State Park was dedicated in 1952. Situated in the valley of Sunday Creek, the park has almost 2600 acres of forested ridges and hollows filled with wildlife and wildflowers. The area offers more than 25 miles of scenic hiking trails, picnic tables, grills, a 500-foot sandy beach and a shelter house. The 664-acre lake has plenty of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. A main campground has 17 electric sites, 67 non-electric sites and two camper cabins, along with a shower house, flush toilets, laundry facilities and camp store. Also offered are 19 primitive campsites, group camping, horseman's camp, dock rentals and hunting permitted in designated areas of the park. The Burr Oak Lodge & Conference Center is a lovely facility perched atop a hill overlooking the lake. The 60-room lodge offers a variety of guestrooms along with 30 cottages located within a mile of the lodge. The lodge features a dining room, lounge, gift shop and glass-enclosed lobby with a wood-burning fireplace. Lodge guests also can enjoy a swimming beach, lighted tennis courts, playground, basketball court, sand volleyball court, shuffleboard, horseshoes, indoor pool and boat launch ramp.
