A cultural and creative hotspot, Fort Worth is in the minds of many the spot where East Texas ends and West Texas begins. Located on the far western end of the sprawling Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, this overgrown cowtown is a surprisingly modern and dynamic city, with a world-class museum district and fun nightlife. The latter, the aptly named Fort Worth Cultural District, includes a pair of highly regarded art museums, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, as well as the excellent collection and landscape art and photography at the Amon Carter Museum. But no visit to "The Fort" would be complete without dropping in on the Stockyards National Historic District, the former stockyard area revitalized into a nightlife and entertainment district, home of the storied White Elephant Saloon and the world's largest honkytonk, Billy Bob's Texas, and featuring twice-daily cattle drives by the city-owned Fort Worth Herd. The city also has an excellent parks system and a historic downtown centered on Sundance Square, thick with shops and restaurants.
