Overview
Most people, if they know anything at all about Provo, know it as the home of Brigham Young University. And a visit to the BYU campus is a must if you want to sink your teeth into Provo's unique character. Most people, if they know anything at all about Provo, know it as the home of Brigham Young University. And a visit to the BYU campus is a must if you want to sink your teeth into Provo's unique character. Because it is run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, you won't find the usual cluster of taverns at the edge of campus, and you may notice that the students are dressed in business casual, if not in full-on business attire. But don't dismiss this as just a church school; it's a real university, with some very strong academic departments. There are enough good museums on campus and nearby to fill a day of sightseeing (don't miss the art museum just south of town in Springville). Just as striking as the town's Mormon culture are its strikingly beautiful setting at the foot of the spectacular Provo Canyon and its easy access to fly-fishing, rafting, hiking, and skiing.
