Brattleboro is a small yet surprisingly busy city set on the banks of the Connecticut River. Known as a gathering place for artists and musicians, creativity and free spirit keep the air alive and make a visit here exciting and reviving. Galleries and art stores line the streets of downtown, each month opening their doors in the evening for Gallery Walk, a special showing event to meet the artists. Several festivals and parades fill the streets annually, including local traditions such as the Strolling of the Heifers and Winter Carnival. The culture is further enriched by the School for International Training, and nearby Marlboro College. Brattleboro is home as well to the Co-op, a member-owned certified organic natural food store committed to the health and education of its community. Visitors will find a surprising amount of local history within the city itself, including healing spring waters and the Estey Organ Company. This is undoubtedly a marvelous place to make base-camp for autumn leaf peeping drives during foliage season, and is close to several ski areas.
