Well, we all know what happens to water when it freezes. Wisconsin Dells has snow and ice galore and all the wonderful winter activities that outdoor enthusiasts love. After all, it was a Wisconsin man, Carl Eliason, who invented the early forerunner of the modern-day snowmobile called a “motor toboggan” back in 1927. Today, miles of snowmobile trails crisscross the Dells. With north-facing slopes, Cascade Mountain has 36 trails for skiers at all levels. Mogul Monster is steep and challenging while Far Out is more than a mile long and fun for beginners. Ten lifts, including the high-speed Mountain Top Express chairlift, get skiers to the top of the mountain quickly and easily. At Devil’s Head Resort, 29 downhill ski trails and a 3.5-mile cross-country ski loop are impressive. Strap on your ice skates for the outside rink at Bowman Park on beautiful Lake Delton. Christmas Mountain Village offers 11 downhill runs from beginner to black diamond slopes, as well as ski lessons, snowboarding, snow tubing and night skiing. Speaking of snow, Great Wolf Lodge has created a winter wonderland indoors where you can stay warm and still enjoy snow. The lodge has rigged up snow machines in the Grand Lobby for actual snowfalls inside, plus holiday specials like appearances by Santa, holiday carol sing-alongs, a polar bear and reindeer race inside the 84-degree indoor water park, and nightly story time. The state’s foremost natural attraction, the Dells were created by the Wisconsin River cutting a channel through the sandstone. With Mother Nature’s beauty galore, the Dells have been drawing visitors for centuries. In the late 1970s, the Dells became a water park mecca along with other attractions.
