Overview

Just south of Grand Teton National Park, the increasingly upscale valley has two centers of activity - the town of Jackson proper and Teton Village, at the base of the slopes of the famed Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, a wintertime paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Just south of Grand Teton National Park, the increasingly upscale valley has two centers of activity - the town of Jackson proper and Teton Village, at the base of the slopes of the famed Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, a wintertime paradise for skiers and snowboarders. The former is busiest in summer, but during the ski season, it takes a backseat to the steep slopes at Teton Village, surrounded by some of the most lauded backcountry of any North American resort. While not the best spot for beginners, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is one of three downhill resorts in the area - Grand Targhee Resort on the west side of the Teton Range and Snow King Family Resort right in town - and there is something for everybody among the three of them. Jackson proper is centered on Town Square, a block-square park fronted by arches made of antlers and surrounded by chic boutiques, nature-oriented art galleries, outdoor gear shops, and tony restaurants. A half-block away is the world-famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, with barstools topped by actual saddles and a legendary dance floor. The area is also known for having some of the most expensive real estate in the West, and more than its fair share of celebrity residents.
